About:

Just Mobile Xtand Go is a car mount that secures your iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S to your windshield or dashboard while you drive. Allowing you to position your iPhone at exactly the right angle as well as easily rotating between landscape and portrait modes.

First Thoughts:

I was very excited to review this product. I've been wanting to move away from the iPhone dock I currently have in my car in favor of a mount that can rotate. At first glance Xtand Go is nicely packaged in recyclable material which is always a plus. Upon unboxing I was presently suppressed of the build quality it felt very solid. Swiveling the mount at it's joints was very easy and the hidden allen key is a nice touch for tightening down swivel points. This product seems to be a very mature product and very well thought out.

The difference Between the iPhone 4s and 5 mounting plate is the grey rubber "Just|mobile" logo on the iPhone5 version it's thicker since the phone is thiner

Installation:

The Xtand Go comes with multiple mounting options. Seeing I live in Los Angeles I opted not to use the window suction cup. However I did mounted the suction cup to a window by it self to test how well it holds up. So far it's been up for 12 days and still feels as strong as when I first put it up.

That being said I decided to use one of the Go buttons and sticky pads to mount the Xtand to the right of my stereo. The instructions tells you to use their cleaning cloth which I thought would be just some alcohol swabs but in fact I'm not to sure what it was but felt like a bit rough.

I used the cleaning cloth on a small plastic area on my car and it seems to scratch and almost turn the plastic white like aged plastic in the sun for years. This was not cool I'm glad I tried it first on an area that wasn't visible. I suggest you do the same if you plan on trying it.

After testing the cloth I opted not to use it. I wiped down the area I wanted to use with a rag and mounted the Xtand Go. The directions suggest that you should leaving the mount alone for 15min. I left it for a good hour and came back.

The mount felt very strong, doesn't seem like it's going anywhere.

Final Thoughts: (after a week of use)

The Xtand Go is a very solid mount and worth the price. I would recommend it to anyone who is running their iPhone naked and is looking for a good swivel mount. It's also a big plus if they are using bluetooth in their car.

Concerns: (small nit-picking)

  • Putting the Black iPhone5 in and out of the mount may wear down the black anodizing. I have not seen any scratches or any wear from this. However it does worries me when it rubs as you click it in and that over time it may wear through. This shouldn't be an issue with the white iPhone5 since it bare metal.
  • The Xtand Go mounting iPhone bracket it self is basically a U shape plastic my concern over time it may weaken to the point it may not hold the iPhone to well.
