Review: Cyborg R.A.T 9 wireless gaming mouse

The Cyborg R.A.T. 9  manages to do everything the R.A.T.7 does, but all wirelessly. Cyborg’s gaming mice have always been all about customization. Just about every feature of there mice can be changed. Even with all the customization this mouse still produces top speed and accuracy.

Speed and Accuracy:

The R.A.T. 9 mouse has a 5600 DPI laser making it among the most sensitive mice along with others such as the Razer Mamba and others. On the fly Adjustable sensitivity comes standard. This is useful as it allows you to quickly switch between pre set modes. One of the key features that makes this mouse stand out from others for FPS is “precision aim mode.” Along the left side of the mouse is a red button. While pressed, the mouse instantaneously drops the speed (configurable in the settings)of the mouse so that you can aim with the highest level of accuracy. I also have to mention that the responsiveness to button pushes where noticeably faster then my Razer Mamba.

Customization:

The customization of Cyborg products is really what makes them stands out. The body of the mouse is made of solid aluminum, and it can be adjusted to fit any hand or play style palming your mouse to the claw grip. You can make the mouse longer or wider with a turn of a screw. The R.A.T. 9 comes with six swappable grips, three for your pinky, three for your palm. It also comes with an adjustable weight system and an allen key screwdriver that is stored away in the base of the mouse

Extra Features:

The R.A.T. 9 also has some other great  features. There are 5 programmable buttons that can be programmed. These button profiles can also be cycled though using cyborg's mode switch. Seeing that this mouse is wireless it comes with Two lithium-ion batteries  and a charger station that doubles as the receiver and weight holder.

Software:

One of the Key Thing here for me being a Mac user is always software and driver support. A lot of company state there devices are Mac support and in most cases all that means is it complies with standard usb device protocols or you get jipped by not getting all the features they advertise. My last mouse was a razor mamba and I must say I had issue for awhile with it. Ultimately I ended up using bootcamp to setup profiles and firmware updates in order to get things working correct.

Cyborg has nailed the software on the head very few company has produced identical software for both Mac and PC's their profile editor is a sweet piece of software enabling you to save your profiles, adjust you sensitivity and precision aim mode as well as test you button outputs.

Final Thoughts:

I personally feel Cyborg has made a great product with fully supported mac software and a fully customizable platform makes for a very competitive gaming mouse. I would recommend this product to my friends. That being said a few things I think need work on

  • Would be nice if the pinky side was adjustable forward and reverse like the thumb side. When using the L bracket in conjunction with high palm rest push to rear I feel i need o hand to far forward.
  • When the palm rest is set to the rear and you lean you weight on the palm the front of the mouse comes up a bit. However I don't think anyone will be using it that far back but feel they could extend the base a bit further
  • The mode selection button is a bit hard to press. This could be a good thing since you may not want to hit it by accident
  • Adding some memory to the mouse and enabling it to save profiles to the mouse it self would also be a nice addition.
